Dance Classes Charlotte North Carolina 2011-2012

It’s hard to believe the 2010-2011 dance year is almost over!  We won’t be having dance classes on Monday for Memorial Day so only those taking dance classes on Tuesdays or Wednesdays will have another dance class before the dress rehearsal on Thursday.  Time sure does fly when you are having fun!

With the year almost over, now is a great time to go ahead and register your child for dance classes for 2011-2012 if you have not already done so.  Please see our 2011-2012 Dance Class Page to see a full listings of the dance classes we will be offering next fall.  Please register your child according to the age your child will be in September (unless the class is specifically listed as Beginner or Advanced, then please register your child by age and level).  If you need any assistance in deciding which class is best for your child, please do not hesitate to contact the dance studio.  We would be more than happy to help!

Charlotte North Carolina Dance School Dress Rehearsal

I sure have enjoyed seeing everyone wear their costumes this week in their dance classes!  Now that Costume Week is wrapping up, we know that the Dress Rehearsal is just around the corner!  The dress rehearsal begins at 5:30 PM on Thursday June 2nd.  All dancers participating in the dress rehearsal, however, will need to show up at 5:00 PM.

Unlike Costume Week which took place at our dance studio, the dress rehearsal will take place at Dana Auditorium, on Selwyn Avenue.  Routines will be performed at the dress rehearsal as if it were the actual recital.  This should help some of our newer younger dancers get used to the stage before the actual recital.

If you have any questions about the dress rehearsal, please visit our 2011 Dance Recital Page for more information on both the dress rehearsal as well as the dance recital.  If you still have more questions, please do not hesitate to contact the studio.  We are very excited about this year's dance recital and want you and your child to have an amazing day.

Lyrical Dance Lessons Charlotte

lyrical dance lessons charlotte nc
I remember years ago going to dance competitions as a kid and there not being a whole lot of lyrical routines at the competitions.  Fast forward to today and now you see many, many lyrical routines at dance competitions.  Lyrical has become very popular for serious dance students.  Lyrical routines tell a story using dance movements specifically choreographed to fit the lyrics or mood of the song.  The judges at dance competitions like to see routines demonstrating balance, flexibility and control.

My dance studio, Dancers Unite, is the only dance studio in the Myers Park area to compete in lyrical at the regional and national level.  It is a great place to go for serious dance students who would like to compete in lyrical.

Doing competition dance means a large time commitment.  In addition to the rehearsal class for the lyrical competition routine, students competing in lyrical have a number of required dance classes they must take.  This helps them with the choreography in the lyrical competition piece.  The required dance classes are ballet, jumps/leaps/turns, strength & stretch and tumbling.  It is also a time commitment due to the required regional competitions as well as one national competition in the summer.  However, going to the classes and competitions will make you a much stronger dancer.

If you are interested in competing in lyrical dance, you will need to first audition for the Dancers Unite Competition Company.  For more information on how to audition, please see our Dance Competition Audition Page.

Ballet Tap Jazz Charlotte NC

ballet tap jazz dance lessons charlotte
Dancers Unite is holding a Ballet/Tap/Jazz combination course this summer on Saturdays from 10:30-11:30 AM for rising kindergartners through 2nd graders.  This class is a great way for our current students to not only review the steps they learned over the past year, but to learn new ones before the fall dance classes start again.  This class is also a great way for new students to be introduced to ballet, tap and jazz.  Fundamental steps in ballet, tap and jazz will be covered during this dance course.

The class meets on Saturdays for one month (July 16th through August 6th).  The cost for the month of dance classes is $65, and there is no registration fee.  For more information on how to register, please see our Summer Dance Class Page.

Jazz and Tap Classes in Charlotte NC

jazz class in charlotte nc
This June, Dancers Unite will hold drop in jazz & tap classes for rising 7th to 12th graders.  The jazz and tap dance classes will be on Wednesday nights June 8th through June 29th, with the jazz class from 6:30-7:30 PM and the tap class from 7:30-8:15 PM.  The great thing about these classes is you do not have to pay for the entire session.  You can pay for just one dance class for $15 per dance class.  So if you’re on vacation for any part of June, you can just pay for the dance classes you can make.

If you will be able to make multiple classes, then it’s a good idea to go ahead and buy the $80 Jazz and Tap Class Drop In Card, because that card is good for all 8 classes of tap and jazz.  That way, each dance class will cost $10 instead of $15.  For more information on how to purchase a Summer Jazz & Tap Class Drop In Card, please see our Summer Tap and Jazz Dance Class Page.

You can also save even more if you already signed up for one of our Dance Intensives this summer.  Students signed up for Dance Intensives can take the drop in classes for $5 per class.  For more information on what Dance Intensives Dancers Unite is offering, please see our Summer Dance Intensive Page.

Salsa Dancing in Charlotte

Ever since the first season of Dancing With The Stars, I have watched the show with my mother and sister.  I was pleased that this season, Salsa has been added back as one of the required dances performed.  Salsa dancing is popular worldwide, and when you dance this fun social dance it’s not hard to see why it is so popular!  Salsa dancing originated in Cuba but has strong African and Caribbean influences as well.

My dance studio, Dancers Unite, will be offering a 6 week Salsa Dance Session this summer.  It runs from Tuesday July 26th – Tuesday August 30th.  It meets every Tuesday for six weeks from 7:00-8:00 PM.  While Salsa is typically danced as a partner dance, you do not have to have a partner for this Salsa Course.  The cost for the entire session is $63.

For more information on how to register for the Salsa Dance Course, please see our Adult Dance Class Page.

Competitive Hip Hop Dance Team in Charlotte North Carolina

Does your child love his or her hip hop class but feel that he or she needs more of a challenge?  Then your child may be ready to compete in Hip Hop at Dancers Unite!

Competition hip hop classes are at a higher level than non-competitive hip hop classes.  Students competing in hip hop class are chosen at the Dancers Unite Competition Company Audition so your child would only be dancing with dancers of the same or very similar skill levels.  The hip hop competition dance choreographer would teach challenging and age appropriate hip hop choreography.

Advanced students competing in hip hop are required to attend his or her hip hop dance rehearsal as well as a take a tumbling class.  The tumbling class will help with any break dancing moves included in the hip hop dance choreography.  Additionally, students competing in hip hop will be allowed to take unlimited dance classes as part of the Competition Company Tuition.  Depending on how they do at the Competition Company Audition, students can also compete in more than hip hop, but the cost will go up.  For more information on how much the cost goes up, see our Competition Company Pricing Page.

Charlotte North Carolina 28206 Dance School Performance

On Saturday, some of Dancers Unite’s dancers had the honor of performing in the Uplifting Little Ladies Pageant.  This is one of the many opportunities our dancers have had this year to perform.  This is a key component of the mission of our dance studio, as we firmly believe that performance experience helps you in any career our students will have later, even if it is not a professional dance career.

Our dancers performed routines in jazz, musical theater, hip hop, lyrical and contemporary.  The dance was performed at the CN Jenkins Memorial Presbyterian Church at 1421 Statesville Avenue, Charlotte NC 28206 (in the Greenville neighborhood of Charlotte).

If you would like a chance to see our dancers perform again, then you can come to our recital on June 4th at 2:00 PM at Dana Auditorium, in the Myers Park neighborhood.  It is available for the public and is free.  For more information, please see our Dance Recital Page.

Serious Ballet Instruction in Charlotte NC

charlotte nc advanced ballet instructionAt the core of the philosophy of Dancers Unite is a love of the most fundamental form of dance, ballet.  While many students take ballet to get better at other dance forms, such as lyrical or jazz, Dancers Unite also gives opportunities for students just wanting to do ballet.  We have great dance classes and opportunities for teenagers with years of ballet experience.

Dancers Unite once again has an Advanced Ballet Class for teens (7th to 12th graders), this time on Tuesdays from 7:00-8:00 PM.  Then from 8:00-8:45 PM students can take pointe.  Students must audition in order to take pointe.  All students on pointe must also be taking the Advanced Ballet Class.  This will help them with Ballet Technique.  For information on how to register for these classes, please see our Dance Class Registration Page.

A good way for students with ballet experience to prepare for Advanced Ballet & Pointe in the fall would be the Ballet Intensive this summer.  It runs from Tuesday August 9th to Thursday August 11th from 6:00-8:00 PM.  For more information on this intensive as well as registration information, please see our Summer Dance Intensive Page

Charlotte NC Dance Studio Costume Week

May 23rd through May 28th is Costume Week at Dancers Unite!  Dancers in non-competitive contemporary, lyrical, tap, jazz, hip-hop, ballet, tumbling, musical theater and pointe dance classes will need to come to their scheduled dance class time wearing the full costume.  This is a chance for students to see if all the accessories to the dance costumes are being worn correctly and everyone has the correct dance shoes and tights.   Basically, it is our pre-dress rehearsal dress rehearsal!

If you would like to see some of the dances performed during last year’s Costume Week at Dancers Unite, come see the video in Dancers Unite’s you tube channel!

Charlotte North Carolina Dance Lessons for Moms & Daughters

Happy Mother’s Day!  Mother’s Day is an important holiday to me, as my mother has always been a huge part of my life.  She was the one who took me to and from countless dance classes and dance competitions.  She sacrificed her time so that I could get a great dance education.  I feel so blessed for that, and also feel blessed that I am now in business with her, as we both own Dancers Unite along with my little sister.

Charlotte NC Youth Dance Camps and Classes

charlotte nc youth dance camps classes
Dancers Unite, my Charlotte dance studio, has many upcoming courses and camps for 2 to 5 year olds in May, June, July and August.

Starting May 4th, we have an Intro to Dance Course for beginner 2 and 3 year old students.  It introduces the children to ballet, tap, and tumbling.  It is a great way to preview if your child is ready for dance in the fall.  It meets on Wednesday evenings from 5:15-6:15 PM for 4 weeks.  For more information on this class, please see our 2-3 Year Old Beginner Dance Class Page.

Similarly, we have dance classes on Saturday mornings from 9:30-10:30 AM running from July 16th to August 6th.  This is great for both beginners and for experienced 2 and 3 year old dancers who want to dance this summer.  The class will teach fundamental ballet, tap and tumbling steps.

We also have Princess Ballet Camps (for 2-5 year olds) and Broadway Babies Camp (for 3-5 year olds) with some spots left.  Our camps have limited space, as it is part of our philosophy to have lots of attention for every student.  We have already had to close many camps already, so sign up as soon as possible before they are closed!

For more information on which camps are still open, please see our Summer Dance Camp Page.

Charlotte Competitive Dancing for Kids

Dancers Unite strongly believes that younger dancers can benefit from dancing competitively.  Therefore we have a Junior Competition Company for the youngest dancers.

The Junior Competition Company of Dancers Unite is for competition students ages 7 & younger, or for 8 to 9 year olds who are new to competition dance.  As the students are younger and the Junior Competition Company is intended to transition students into full Company Members, the requirements for the Junior Competition Company are less than for the Senior Competition Company.

Students in the Junior Competition Company must attend their competition rehearsal classes.  They must also take a ballet/tap/jazz combination dance class or a hip hop/jazz combination dance class.  Even though these are the only requirements, Dancers Unite strongly encourages these students to take as many dance classes as possible, as that will help them in their dance training.  Therefore, students in the Junior Competition Company receive unlimited dance classes in their Competition Company Tuition.

For more information about pricing for the Junior Competition Company, please see our Charlotte Dance Competition Company Pricing Page.  This will also let you know what the Junior Competition Package includes in your monthly tuition.
