Dance Competition Success

We just came back from our first dance competition of 2010, held at CPCC. What a wonderful day we had!

We couldn't be prouder of our dancers who did great! One of our dancers, Rachel, even was awarded Top Teen Solo for her hip hop routine! More importantly, our dancers had fun and it was a great bonding experience for all involved!

Ice Dancing in the Winter Olympics

I’ve long been a fan of ice dancing, ever since I read the book Ice Dancing by Nicholas Walker as a child. An Olympic sport since 1976, ice dancing has its roots in ballroom dancing (with competition dances in such styles as the Paso Doble, Viennese Waltz, and Argentine Tango).

At this Olympics, Team USA has two pairs who seem to have a solid chance at winning a medal. Last December, Americans Meryl Davis and Charlie White won the ice dancing portion of the 2009–2010 Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final. In the 2006 Winter Olympics, Americans Tanith Belbin and Benjamin Agosto took home the Silver Medal.

You can catch the Ice Dance competitions for the 2010 Winter Olympics this Friday, Sunday, and Monday.

Modern Dance Lessons Charlotte NC

Seeing that the Olympics are in Vancouver, it seemed fitting to check out (virtually, at least) some of the other events happening nearby. I found an interesting article about Monkey King, a Canadian musical that is also, apparently, the first Chinese rock musical.

The musical combines Chinese-influenced rock music, kung fu battles, and modern dance. It sounds exciting and definitely original!

Speaking of modern, teens and adults interested in taking modern dance lessons in Charlotte should consider the modern dance class at Dancers Unite, held on Saturdays from 12:00-12:45 pm. It’s a great way to have fun, work on your technique, and explore your creative side. For more information please check out the following: Modern Dance Class Registration.
